June 1st, 2018 is an important date in the calendars of fashion lovers and students across Paris. On this day, the Musée YSL Paris will open its doors with free admission. There are two reasons for this special occasion. First of all, it is the 10th anniversary of the death of Yves Saint-Laurent. Secondly, the museum is holding a temporary exhibit celebrating his early life.
Rather than focusing on the most successful years of the Yves Saint-Laurent line, which might be the obvious approach when memorializing the man, this show looks at his teenage years. This was an important period for Yves Saint-Laurent, as he discovered his passion for art, fashion, theatre, and ballet during his time in Algeria. Many of these notebooks, sketches, and creative projects are now under one roof for closer inspection. Intricate papercuts show the talent that would appear on the catwalk. The show opens on May 29th and ends on September 9th.
Access to the exhibition is included in the price of admission to the Musée YSL Paris.
