Madame de Maintenon at Palace of Versailles

Madame de Maintenon at Palace of Versailles
The Palace of Versailles has been home to a number of kings and queens throughout its history. Many left a prominent mark on the palace through the artwork and items they brought to their own quarters of the building. This was true for Madame de Maintenon, the wife of Louis XIV. This secret wife of the king has four rooms of her own in the main wing of the palace. Over the 35 years she resided there, she decorated with bold designs and stunning artwork. The Palace has since reproduced some of the silk hanging and has brought together some important pieces of art, books and sculptures from her time there.

This new exhibition at the restored quarters of the queen marks the 300th anniversary of her death. It is already open to the public and will continue to welcome guests until the 21st of July. Don’t pass up this chance to learn more about this secret queen.
