The Jardin des Plantes in a Parisian garden in the lovely 5th arrondissement. However, the term 'garden' may be an understatement as the Jardin des Plantes actually houses a couple of museums, a large greenhouse and even a zoo.
For this reason, the Jardin des Plantes should be on the itinerary of any visitor spending time in Paris. Guests staying at the one of the Grands Hôtels Parisiens should take advantage of their location in central Paris in order to spend a few hours or even the whole day at the Jardin des Plantes.
Those who visit this beautiful Parisian oasis up until March 18, 2013 will be able to see a special collection of orchids in the large greenhouses located at the Jardin des Plantes. The exhibition of orchids, entitled 'One Thousand and One Orchids' presents more than one thousand orchid plants of various species.
Since orchids are normally found in nature in wooded areas growing on or around trees, the greenhouse of the Jardin des Plantes provides a perfect spot to witness all kinds of orchids in an environment that is similar to one where these plants might be found naturally.
For visitors arriving after March 18th, there will still be plenty of things to see at the Jardin des Plantes. Notably, an exhibition called 'Behind the Scenes of the Museum: The Paleontologists' will reveal the exciting world of professional paleontologists who work to find fossils and other remnants that tell us so much about Earth's history. This exhibit, which consists of a photo-report of the dig sites, methodology, tools and discoveries of paleontologists in France and Belgium, runs until May 12, 2012.
Once visitors have seen the work of paleontologists and the beautiful orchids in the green house, they can then move on to the evolution museum and zoo that are also located within this impressive Parisian garden.
