“Eclectic, a collection of the 21st century” is an exhibition taking place at the Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac Museum, in Paris, until 2 April 2017. It’s a contemplation on the collection of businessman Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière throughout over forty key pieces, as well as classical, modern and contemporary works.
Even though this is a young collection started back in 2003, it is nonetheless important for its diversity translating the evolution of its owner’s taste, previously dominated previously by classical arts and opening up to the non-western, mostly African arts.
Ancient civilizations, the Orient or the Mediterranean basin, the evolution towards abstraction, minimalism, art brut and extra-occidental arts are but a few among the many themes tackled by this exhibition. The Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac Museum is continuing its reflection on the place of the so-called "primitive" arts in arts history by opting for an open cultural dialogue and the rapprochement of civilizations.
