A Soulful Singer Puts on a Cabaret-Style Show in Bastille

The Théâtre de la Bastille in the 11th arrondissement of Paris is a performance center that prides itself on its independent status. It is not a public institution, which means that it has total control over its program and is one of the most international theaters in the city. Visitors to Paris who want to be surprised or intrigued by something different can count on the Théâtre de la Bastille to deliver shows from the most improbable depths of the dramatic world.

The theater also organizes musical performances, and from September 11 until September 15, 2013, a famous Franco-American singer will find her place on the stage of the Théâtre de la Bastille. The singer, named Rosemary Standley, belongs to the internationally celebrated band Moriarty.

The Standley's show, called 'A Queen of Heart' marks the beginning of the theaters 2013 - 2014 season. During the show, the sensual singer will deliver her take on a repertoire that includes classics from Nina Simone, Cole Porter, Marlene Dietrich, Billie Holiday and Marilyn Monroe. In this way, the singer's sultry voice will transport the audience back through time.

The is directed by Juliette Deschamps, an experienced 'metteuse en scène' -- the French term for someone responsible for the mise-en-scene of a stage performance. Deschamps infuses the environment with a cabaret feel that perfectly suits the musical stylings of Standley and the avant-garde spirit of the Théâtre de la Bastille. Guests staying at one of the Grands Hôtels Parisiens can discover the Bastille and this creative theater for themselves during their visit to the City of Light.

Tickets can be reserved in advance and cost between 16 and 26 euros, depending on the seat. Those interested in buying tickets can do so through the Théâtre de la Bastille's website (in French).
